Discover Denver’s Arts Community
Posted by TheHomeCart.com on Saturday, June 26th, 2010 at 9:31pm.If there’s one thing that Denver really ought to be known for, it is its commitment to the arts. Denver’s arts community is vital, active and vibrant. From the downtown theatre district to Denver’s numerous museums, you don’t need to go very far to see just how committed to the Arts Denver is.
Take, for example, Denver’s museums. You’ll find the Denver Art Museum right downtown. This museum features local Western American artwork as well as an extensive international collection. The Denver Museum for Nature & Science is one of Denver’s most popular family attractions, too. Several smaller museums of varying types dot the Denver landscape, as well.
The Downtown Denver theatre district includes a wonderful combination of both progressive and traditional institutions. Whether you want to watch wonderful classic plays and musicals, or whether you want to see what’s on the cutting edge of theatre, you can find it here. The Denver Center for the Performing Arts as well as Denver’s Avenue Theatre are just two of the most popular theatrical venues in the city.
You’ll also find a number of artistic venues dedicated to Denver’s rich multi-cultural heritage. El Centro Su Teatro features art exhibits as well as theatrical productions and musicals that are grounded in the Chicano culture and geared toward the unique perspective of the Chicano community. The Mizel Center for arts and Cultures offers another cultural perspective. This venue features films, concerts, exhibits and theatrical performances geared toward Denver’s Jewish community, and is also the host of the annual Denver Jewish Film Festival.
You’ll find a number of high-end art galleries throughout Denver, as well. Cherry Creek, in particular, is home to several of these galleries. High fashion is represented, too, particularly at the Colfax shopping avenue and at the 16th Street Mall.
And, just when you think you’ve seen everything that the Denver arts community has to offer, you can wander into Stretch’s Lair on Decatur Street. This venue is aimed toward clowns, clown trainers, stilt walkers and giant puppets, and is a member of the Colorado Clown Association.
From theater to clowns to multicultural experiences, Denver’s arts community has plenty to offer anyone.
