Getting the Most from your Rocky Mountain National Park Visit
Posted by TheHomeCart.com on Monday, June 21st, 2010 at 11:20pm.416 of the most beautiful square miles of land in the entire United States can be found right here in Colorado in the Rocky Mountain National Park. The Rocky Mountain National Park features over 60 mountains over 12,000 feet, and the part provides its visitors with plenty to do. From hiking, biking and walking to fishing and camping, this part is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon or a few weeks.
Here are some things you can do to get the most from your Rocky Mountain National Park visit:
- Find a place to stay in Estes Park. Estes Park is a small town that sits at the base of Rocky Mountain National Park. Estes Park is just an hour outside of Denver, and offers you plenty of places to stay. Whether you want to stay in a rustic cabin, a quaint bed and breakfast or a posh condo, you’ll find it in Estes Park. There are also plenty of restaurants and entertainment opportunities in this little mountain town.
- Make sure you stop by one of the Rocky Mountain National Park visitor centers before you start out hiking on the park’s trails. You’ll find several centers, including Alpine, Moraine Park, Fall River and Beaver’s Meadow. Each of these centers features trail maps, as well as access to park rangers that can offer advice about which trail is best for your abilities and your interests.
- Pack enough in the way of snacks and water before you head out on the trails. Bring along layers of clothing, too. Recognize that the altitude can change rather rapidly, which can also lead to shortness of breath. Start out easy with your hiking and work your way up.
- If you want to have an amazing view of mountain lakes, consider hikes to Mills Lake, Bear Lake and Loch Lake. Other hikes, like Cascade Falls, Adams and Alberta offer you views of amazing waterfalls. If the summit is more your think, hike up Deer Mountain, Flattop Mountain or the Twin Sisters.
- Make sure to invest in the automobile weekly pass. It lets you get in and out for the entire week. You might also consider shuttle service from one of the nearby lots so as to avoid driving on narrow mountain roads.
- Visit Rocky Mountain National Park in the fall, as you can. It’s not as crowded as the summer, and the weather tends to be more stable than it is in the spring.
