The Byers-Evans House Museum

Posted by TheHomeCartTeam on Monday, June 18th, 2012 at 7:18am.

Rocky Mountain News founder, William Byers first built his home in 1883.  In 1889, the home was purchased by William Gray Evans.  Both Byers and Evans were prominent Denver families.  The home is an Italianate style house that has had several add-ons throughout the years.  In 1981, the Colorado Historical Society received the home with all its contents as a donation.  The house is one of Denver’s historical homes that is open to the public where they can visit a beautifully restored home taking them back to the period of 1912 to 1924 with ninety percent of the original other household items, furniture, china, glassware, brightly patterned wallpapers, polished wood finishes, ornate mantles, and draperies that belonged to the William Evans and his wife, Anne Evans.

In the museum’s Visitor Center is the Byers-Evans House Gallery that features nationally known photographers, weavers, ceramicists and painters who display the changing focus on Denver, Colorado and the Rocky Mountain West and is open at no cost to the public Monday through Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm.

The museum is located behind the Denver Art Museum at 1310 Bannock Street. Visitors are welcome to take guided tours of the home each half hour between 10:30 am to 2:30 pm for a cost of $6 for adults, $4 for children 6 to 12 years, and $5 for seniors and students.
