East Colfax Denver Homes

The East Colfax area began as a boulevard on the outskirts of town, lined with trees and wide promenades. East Colfax was once reserved for the gentried in Denver, the socially and politically elite who made fortunes in silver, in the late 1800’s. Today East Colfax is, an area of the city where the recent renovation of City Park Esplanade at East High School, reflects the revitalization of Upper East Colfax, and speaks to yet another shift in the course of this area’s culture.

Neighborhoods surrounding East Colfax real estate vary considerably, with a wide range of diverse households, and a blend of architectural styles. Victorian mansions primed for renovation, stand side by side with condominiums and apartments offering full amenities. Single-family homes in the East Colfax real estate area are priced modestly in the $125,000 range, or about $122 a square foot.

About East Colfax, Denver Colorado

The cast that lifted the curtain for a cultural and demographic shift in the East Colfax real estate area began in May of 2005, when the St. Charlestown Company purchased the vacant Lowenstein Theater, and the adjacent land. Then Denver’s beloved Tattered Cover Book Store agreed to move, becoming a part of the project to preserve the mid-century theater building. Some members of the surrounding communities welcome new development saying it enhances the character of EastColfax, while others worry out loud that gentrification and increased traffic is too high a price to pay. The cultural road finally taken by East Colfax is sure to be, like its history, long and storied.
