The Community of Highlands Ranch Colorado

As part of the Louisiana Purchase Highlands Ranch became a part of the United States in 1803, but was not permanently settled until 1859. The famous Highlands Ranch Mansion was built over a period of several years, from 1891 to 1904. Highlands Ranch is an extremely desirable place to live and its residential population has grown exponentially over the course of just the past three decades.

Hard to believe there were no homes in Highlands Ranch before 1981. The growth of the community has been incredible – in the early 90s there were just about 20,000 people living in Highlands Ranch. In 2006 that number was almost 92,000. When the entire community is complete, which is expected to be 2015, there will be an estimated 100,000 residents.

Highlands Ranch is a master-planned community, and when the plan was developed and approved by Douglas County in 1979, it included a requirement for several different types of housing options so that people of all economic levels could afford to live there. The Metro District of Highlands Ranch owns and maintains an impressive network of outdoor recreation amenities. With 22 parks, more than 70 miles of trails, and 2,000 acres of natural open space areas, Highlands Ranch is home to active people and a diverse wildlife population. In fact, 85 percent of homes in Highlands Ranch are located within one quarter mile of a park, open space area or trail. This community has approximately 25 acres of park land per one thousand residents. If Highlands Ranch ever became incorporated, it would be one of the largest cities in the State of Colorado.

The business community flourishes here, award winning schools, state of the art recreational facilities, all mean the Highlands Ranch community has something for everyone. One of the trademark features of the city is convenience. Shopping, dining and an impressive array of amenities are within minutes of most residences.

Housing options range from condos and starter homes to luxury estates making Highlands Ranch the perfect place to find your home.
