Idledale, Colorado sits as a small un-incorporated town in Jefferson County Colorado, just west of Denver, in beautiful Bear Creek Canyon.
You couldn’t find more than a handful of settlers in this part of the state, back when the stage line ran through the canyon in the late 1800’s, and perhaps fittingly, not a lot has changed.
Today there are more than a handful, but still less than a few who take up residence in this quiet canyon community. Idledale is one of several small communities along Bear Creek Canyon where outdoor activities can truly be called a way of life.
Large areas along the river have been designated summer tent sites, and just west of town visitors enjoy hiking along the creek, and up into the hills above Idledale.
They say views of the foothills beneath Mount Evans, and the city lights of Denver, to the east, are spectacular. You won’t find restaurants or lodging facilities in Idledale, but the cities of nearby Evergreen and Morrison help make that a non-issue, for this shade-covered riverside community.
