Whittier Denver Homes and Living

A pleasant walk through City Park puts residents here at the doorstep of several of Denver’s cultural treasures, including the Denver Zoo, and the Museum of Science and Nature. Whittier real estate is primarily residential, and most of the homes here were built prior to the 1940’s. Named for the19th Century abolitionist poet, John Greenleaf Whittier (1807-1892 Whittier neighborhood has been a diverse community from its inception. Residents here enjoy a close proximity to downtown, and several of the city’s major cultural centers.

Homes in the Whittier real estate area were built in the early 20th century as Denver’s downtown district became inadequate for the number of new arrivals. Architectural designs here consist of those popular at the time, most notably the Queen Anne style. Homebuyers will find Whittier an almost entirely residential community of single-family homes, and several mansions in the neighborhood have been converted to multi-family dwellings. A good deal of renovation has taken place in Whittier, giving rise to its reputation as an up and coming neighborhood. But even though new construction commands higher prices here, many homes in the area have seen too many years pass since any great care was taken. As a result, first-time homebuyers and young professionals now recognize how reasonably priced many of these properties have become. Average sales prices for homes on Whittier real estate come in around $230,000.

During the 1970s and 1980s, the value of the historic housing on Whittier real estate was rediscovered, and a new appreciation for the neighborhood as one of Denver's historic residential areas began to grow. Today Whittier real estate reflects a mixture of late nineteenth and early twentieth century homes and residential structures built during the time of these urban renewal efforts. With a number of pleasant parks, small businesses, churches and schools, the Whittier neighborhood is an attractive and vibrant Denver community.
