Bow Mar Real Estate

Bow Mar developed as an agricultural area, as greater Denver began to grow, in the late 19th century. It became home to several large farms that provided for both Denver and Littleton.

As Denver continued to grow in the post-World War II era, Bow Mar farmland was purchased to develop single family housing, and many of the homes came out of the Frank Lloyd Wright prairie-style school of architecture. Homes were first constructed around what is now Bow Mar Lake, in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The end of the 1950s saw the neighborhood largely completed. Bow Mar was incorporated as a town in 1958 that straddled both Arapahoe and Jefferson counties.

Today, single family homes in Bow Mar rest on full acre-sized lots, many with spectacular views of the Rocky Mountain foothills. Homes were also placed on wide streets, and were limited to being no more than one story tall. Today, many houses in the area are being updated or replaced with new construction, and the original building covenants remain. Bow Mar maintains a public beach for residents that are utilized year-round for concerts, gatherings, or other neighborhood events. The Bow Mar Yacht Club hosts regattas during the summer months on Bow Mar Lake.

Despite a rather close proximity to Denver, there remains a strong sense of community more akin to rural living. Bowles Lake, or “Bow Mar Lake” as its come to be known, is the town’s centerpiece. Boating, fishing, and swimming are but a few of the recreational activities residents enjoy year-round.
