Commerce City Real Estate

Until the late 1920s, the area was devoted to agriculture, including wheat fields, dairies, and pig farms. Industry moved in, with a refinery established in 1930 and grain elevators built in the late 1930s. Rocky Mountain Arsenal was founded in 1942 due east of the growing community. In 1951, as Denver was considering annexing the area, a plan to incorporate all of southern Adams County was developed, bu a group of about 300 residents of the area voted for incorporation, and Commerce Town was incorporated in 1952, comprising neighorhoods such as Rose Hill and southern Adams City. Commerce Town annexed part of Derby in 1962, increasing the population over fourfold, enough for the town to gain the status of a city. The name was duly changed to Commerce City.

Today, this mixed residential and industrial community has added its technical resources to the mix, and the result is a city that serves and provides for the entire Denver metro area. Commerce City offers a surprising variety of entertainment and recreational venues. Commerce City’s municipal parks have fifteen miles of trails, including the South Platte River Greenway which links to Aurora’s High Line Canal via the Sand Creek Regional Greenway. Sand Creek runs beneath stands of willows and cottonwoods, and along native grasslands. The Greenways provide habitat for a variety of wildlife including beaver, deer and foxes; and for bird watchers, herons, owls, and egrets. Commerce City was the recent recipient of a 917-acre parcel from the Federal government. Named the Prairie Gateway , it is one of the most significant urban wildlife preserves in the U.S. and includes its own short-grass prairie.

Commerce City is a fast growing community. With a current population of about 35,000 it is estimated that in the first 5 years of this decade the population of Commerce City has grown by about 63%.

Situated at the junction of major rail lines and interstate highways, and boardering Denver International Airport on the north, Commerce City Colorado is a major industrial and transportation crossroads, befitting its name.
