Auraria, Denver Real Estate
The community of Auraria is located just east of downtown Denver, occupying a geographic triangle created by Cherry Creek’s west bank, the South Platte River’s east bank, and Colfax Avenue. Residents here enjoy the convenience of immediate access to I-25, light rail, and the distinct advantage of being part of Denver’s city center.
In the 1850's, they came to Auraria to make their fortunes in gold. Homes in the area, 2-story Victorians, row houses and brick bungalows, all reflect that history. Today, Auraria is very much home to the commuter, and most properties consist of newly renovated historic buildings, where fashionable condominiums, and lofts with hardwood floors and exposed brick, are the new gold rush.
Auraria was once a small settlement competing with Denver to become Colorado’s state capital. But Auraria’s original settlers, who had arrived from Georgia, decided to return home to fight in the Civil War, and soon after, Auraria became a Denver neighborhood. The town saw particular growth in 1977, when the Auraria Higher Education Campus, home to Metro State, Community College of Denver, and University of Colorado Denver, was created The Tivoli is today’s setting for the Auraria campus student union, and also houses the Starz Film Center. Auraria also plays an important role as home to Six Flags Elitch Gardens, and the Pepsi Center arena, two of Denver’s most popular entertainment venues. Recent renovation successes in neighboring Larimer Square and LowerDowmtown have helped revitalized the entire area.
