Washington Park is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Denver. Built in 1899, the 165-acre Washington Park, with Smith and Grasmere lakes each ending the long grassy meadow, is a local recreational haven. Bike paths, playgrounds and ball fields all make this a popular venue for residents to interact. From I-25 to Cherry Creek and from University Boulevard to Downing Street, the neighborhood is rich with shopping and entertainment, with the cluster of small shops and restaurants on South Gaylord and South Pearl Streets. Washington Park neighborhood is one of the most highly educated communities in Denver. 75 per cent of residents here have college degrees, much higher than the city’s 39 per cent average.
